DIPLOMA - Now Recruiting for September 2025!

Tŷ Elis Diploma

Ty Elis Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling is a part-time Level 4 and Level 5 delivered at the Porthcawl site one evening per week and occasional weekend days. The course is two years long and is accredited by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and, at the discretion of the Society, is a route onto a national register of counsellors which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. On successful completion of the course you will be qualified to start counselling in your own right. You can find out more about the diploma in the Course Outline section and the Tutors Section.

Supervised Practice

Our diploma requires 100 hours of supervised practice with clients of Ty Elis. Because Ty Elis is a general counselling charity we can provide you with a broad experience of clients and presenting issues. You will receive free supervision in a group format twice a month (2 hours per supervision session). The supervision is provided on a remote platform such as Zoom or Teams and attendance is mandatory as per professional membership requirements.

Commitment

The complete Diploma is 400 hours teaching time delivered one evening per week, September – June each year and a weekend (Saturday & Sunday) at the start of each module (5 each year). There is also the 100 practicum hours to be undertaken during the Level 5 year with the accompanying supervision 4 hours per month. Before applying we ask that you consider the commitment needed to undertake this course as we recognise that it may be alongside full-time employment and family commitments.

Entry Requirements

The course is designed to meet the learning at academic Levels 4 and 5. This is the level suggested by the UK Government as the minimum standard for professional competence as a counsellor. Entry to the course will be by a full application and interview process; therefore selection is based on a number of factors which will include ability to work at the level required, experience, current knowledge and the ability to understand and practice in an ethically sensitive manner.

Application

Please complete and return the application form and EDI monitoring form to office@tyelis.org.uk
The application process is usually completed by June of each year so please ensure your application form is submitted as early as possible and ideally before May each year.
